JAPAN CAR – DESIGNS FOR THE CROWDED GLOBE

入口からはいると最初の部屋にはたくさんのBONSAI。
なんで盆栽？と思ったら日本の車の「小ささ」について言及してました。
小さなものに趣向を凝らす日本技術。

坂さんらしく紙管パイプを利用した会場と
原さんらしい白を基調としたグラフィック。WEBもシンプル。
えりこに教えてもらったので、みんなで見てきました。
パリとロンドンで日本の車のデザインを紹介する展示会です。
ロンドンのサイエンス・ミュージアムでは4月までやっています。
ミュージアムは無料ですが、こちらの企画展は有料になります。
規模としては有料の展示にしてはちょっと小さいかな。
展覧会キュレーターは原研哉さん。
会場設計・設営はSFCの坂茂研究室。
他には、WOWの映像や山口晃さんの高架高速道路の絵が展示されていました。
こういう日本を紹介した展示は
海外からみた日本という視点を整理できるのでとても興味がわきます。
それと、父親は元々車のデザイナーで、弟も車好きなのだけど、
僕自身は乗り物酔いするのもあって、小さい頃から車ってあまり興味わかなかったのですが、
最近は、人間の経済活動を持続可能なものにするために、
一番考えなきゃいけないデザインのテーマなのだろうなと思って、
興味深くみまもっております。車の環境デザイン戦略。

Small
Being small need not mean settling for less.
Japan has found positive value in simplifying and condensing.
That sensibility can be seen in car manufacturing.
小さくすることは、我慢することではありません。
簡潔に凝縮していくことに、日本は積極的な価値を見いだしてきました。
その感性はクルマの生産においても同様に生かされています。

Environment
By 2020, cars are likely to be running on fuels other than petroleum.
Candidates include electricity, hydrogen, and biofuels such as ethanol.
The Japan auto industry has led the drive to cut CO2 emissions.
Horrific air pollution and lack of fossil fuels led Japan to develop practical technology.
2020年には、クルマは石油以外のエネルギーで走っていると言われます。
電気、水素、そして植物系エタノールなどが代替エネルギー候補です。
日本のクルマは、CO2の排出量抑制にいち早く取り組んできました。
かつての環境汚染を克服し、石油資源の乏しさに悩む日本ならではの技術の成熟です。

Mobile Cell
The future will bring more than individual drivers each controlling a single car.
Cars will become parts of whole transport systems integrated with the surrounding city.
The essence of a car is already shifting from its drive train to its information systems.
ドライバーが制御する一台ずつのクルマではなく、
都市が制御する移動システムへ、モビリティの未来は移行していきます。
駆動系から情報系へ、クルマの本質が変化しはじめています。

小ささ、環境技術、そして移動する都市細胞へ
自動車産業は、エンジンの生産から人とクルマのインターフェイスまで、ものづくりの領域に大きな裾野を持つだけではなく、今日、世界の課題となっているCO2の排出量削減に直結する産業です。日本は、乗用車を生産しているメーカーだけでも8社あり、世界屈指の自動車生産国です。身近な道具としてもクルマは完全に生活に溶け込んでいます。そんな日本のクルマの現状と特徴を、わかりやすく簡潔に描いてみようと、この展覧会を制作しました。
日本のクルマの歴史は、西洋の自動車生産技術とその文化の追随から始まっています。しかしながら、日本という国の独自の産業発展の形や生活意識のなかで、今日の日本のクルマは、特別な個性を身につけるに至っています。この展覧会では、日本のクルマの特徴を以下の三点に集約してご紹介します。原 研哉　展覧会キュレーター

Small cars with environmental technology become moving cells, parts of the city
Including its supporting industries and ranging from engine manufacture to creating the interfaces between cars and people, the auto industry is involved in a very broad swathe of manufacturing, and it is a direct player in the effort to reduce carbon emissions. Japan is one of the world’s top manufacturers in the industry, with eight different car makers and a home market where the car has become a familiar tool and an integral part of day-to-day life. This exhibition has been created to give a clear and comprehensible view of the characteristics and circumstances behind Japanese cars today. Although the history of cars in Japan began with an attempt to emulate the West’s automotive technology and culture, the context of Japanese lifestyles and Japan’s particular route to industrial development has given Japan’s cars their own unique characteristics and individuality. This exhibition presents these characteristics, consolidating them into three specific perspectives.
