水面に映る桜、鹿の井出水（しかのいですい） – “Shikanoidesui” Deer well water

香川県高松市太田下町、サンフラワー通りから少しはいったところに、町中の喧騒から逃れ、静かで趣きのある石積みの小川がながれています。偶然みつけた時、「こんなところに、こんなに静かな水辺があったのか！」と驚きました。平安時代1122年（保安3年)に讃岐の国が大干ばつに見舞われた時に、居石（おりいし）神社に現れた一匹の鹿が、前足で土を掘った場所から清水が湧いたという伝説がつたわっています。「鹿の井出水（しかのいですい）」は1998年度（平成10年度）に、魅力ある農村（むら）づくり事業の一貫でとして176mの区間を石積み護岸や親水空間を整備してあります。

I found a peaceful landscape in the urban area of Takamatsu city, Kagawa pref., Japan. The　place is called “Shikanoidesui”. It means deer well water.　 According to the local legend of Takamatsu city, when it had terrible drought, a deer appeared at Oriishi shrine. And then the deer dig up the land, water gushed out from there. Therefore this space for water-lovers is　called “Shikanoidesui” and it’s well-developed there.

Wander slightly from Sunflower Street in Otashimomachi, Takamatsu City, Kagawa. Away from the hustle and bustle, encounter a stream with quaint stone levees. It is a secret cherry blossom spot that is not even well-known to Takamatsu City residents. In the evening, lights are lit on along the stream, which creates a calm atmosphere. Go down to the riverside to view the cherry blossoms from a different perspective.

There is a folktale about this stream. In 1122, when the land of Sanuki (the former name of Kagawa) suffered a great drought, a deer appeared at Oriishi Shrine and dug up the ground with its front leg. Freshwater began to spring forth from the hole created by the deer.

A 176-meter-long section of the stream was redeveloped as Shikanoidesui, as part of the city’s project for creating an attractive rural area. With stone levees and spaces for enjoying water, Shikanoidesui serves as a place for relaxation.(Experience Takamatsu)

保安三年(1122 年)、讃岐の国は大ひでりに見舞われ、飲み水にも事欠くようになりました。人々は何度も雨乞いをしましたが、一滴の雨も降らずに困り果てていました。
そんなある日、居石（おりいし）神社に白髪、白髭の見慣れない老人が現れ、不思議そうにながめる村人たちの前で、突然一匹の鹿に姿を変えて走り出したので、村人たちが驚いてその後を追ったところ、鹿は桃の木のそばで立ち止まって前足で土を掘り、どこへともなく走り去りました。
鹿が土を掘ったところから、こんこんと清水が湧いてきたので、村人たちは大喜びで喉を潤したという話が伝わっています。
この湧き水は「鹿の泉」と呼ばれ、飲料、かんがい水として大切にされてきましたが、近年、高速道路が建設されたり、都市区画整理により急速に都市化が進行する中で荒廃が進んできました。そこで、街中に残っている古き良き施設を後世に伝えるために、平成 10 年度に魅力ある農村（むら）づくり事業で「鹿の井出水」として 176m 区間を石積み護岸に改修し、合わせて遊歩道、休憩所などが
整備されました。
鹿の井出水は高松市太田下町の熊野神社の北側にあり、街中のオアシスとして地域の人々に利用されるとともに、いまでも太田、伏石、下多肥の水田の補助水源として活用されています。
