【香川】高松で出会えるジャカランダ – [Kagawa] Discovery! Jacaranda

ジャカランダ（和名：紫雲木）は、南米原産のノウゼンカズラ科ジャカランダ属の樹木です。初夏から夏にかけて青紫色のラッパ状の花を咲かせることから、「世界三大花木」の一つとして知られています。繊細な羽状の葉はネムノキにも似ており、開花期には木全体が紫色の雲をまとったような美しい姿を見せます。

世界では、メキシコシティやオーストラリア・ブリスベンなどで街路樹として親しまれ、満開時には街並みを鮮やかな紫色に彩ります。日本では温暖な地域を中心に植栽されており、珍しい花木として人気があります。香川県高松市内では、比較的珍しいジャカランダを2か所で見ることができます。

The jacaranda (Japanese name: Shikunoki) is a tree belonging to the genus Jacaranda in the Bignoniaceae family, native to South America. It is known as one of the ‘world’s three great flowering trees’ due to the blue-purple, trumpet-shaped flowers it produces from early summer through to summer. Its delicate, pinnate leaves resemble those of the mimosa tree, and during the flowering season, the entire tree takes on a beautiful appearance, as if draped in a purple cloud.

Around the world, it is popular as a street tree in places such as Mexico City and Brisbane, Australia, and when in full bloom, it colours the cityscape a vivid purple. In Japan, it is planted mainly in warmer regions and is popular as a rare flowering tree. Within Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, you can see these relatively rare jacarandas at two locations.

Both are valuable spots where you can enjoy the blue-purple flowers right in the heart of the city. During the flowering season, you can enjoy a magical landscape reminiscent of the tropics. It is a tree known only to those in the know, allowing you to experience the charm of the jacaranda—a tree loved around the world—whilst remaining in Takamatsu.

ことでん沿線、林道駅の東側。詰田川とことでん長尾線の交差する場所に静かに大きなジャカランダが植わっています。
Along the Kotoden railway line, to the east of Hayashimichi Station, a large jacaranda stands quietly where the Tsumeda River crosses the Kotoden Nagao Line.

香川大学 林町キャンパス 8号館（演習研究棟）

鳳凰木（ホウオウボク）、火焔木（カエンボク）とならんで、世界三大花木としても知られるジャカランダ（紫雲木、シウンボク）。オーストラリアやメキシコでは街路樹として植えられていて、日本の桜のように印象的な季節の景観をつくっています。「いつか、ジャカランダみてみたいな」と思っていたのですが、近所を自転車で走っていたときに、目の端でふと鮮やかな紫色の花を捉えたのでした。発見！ジャカランダ。まさかこんな近所にジャカランダが植わっているとは、気が付かないものですね。香川大学林キャンパスの敷地内に1本だけ植えられていました。ジャカランダとは、ノウゼンカズラ科の植物の総称で、南米原産です。紫色の花を咲かせ、街路樹や庭木として人気があります。オーストラリアでは春を代表する花として知られ、ジャカランダ・フェスティバルが開かれるほど愛されています。

Alongside the phoenix tree (Hououboku) and the flame tree (Kaenboku), the jacaranda (Shionboku) is also known as one of the world’s three great flowering trees. In Australia and Mexico, it is planted as a street tree, creating an impressive seasonal landscape similar to Japan’s cherry blossoms. I had always wanted to see a jacaranda tree, and one day while riding my bicycle around the neighbourhood, I caught a glimpse of its vibrant purple flowers out of the corner of my eye. Discovery! Jacaranda. I never would have noticed that there was a jacaranda tree planted so close by. There was just one tree planted on the grounds of the Faculty of Engineering at Kagawa University. Jacaranda is the general term for plants in the Bignoniaceae family, native to South America. They bloom purple flowers and are popular as street trees and garden trees. In Australia, they are known as the flower representing spring and are so beloved that a Jacaranda Festival is held.

キリモドキ属 – Wikipedia

キリモドキ属（キリモドキぞく、桐擬き属、学名：Jacaranda）は、ノウゼンカズラ科に属する中南米原産の低木または高木からなる属である。ジャカランダ属とも呼ばれる。

ジャカランダ（jacaranda、和名は「紫雲木」）と総称されるが、うち1種（キリモドキ、Jacaranda mimosifolia）の別名でもある。また、マメ科のブラジリアン・ローズウッドを「ジャカランダ」と呼ぶ者もいる。英語ではタルコ（tarco）とも呼ぶ。

特徴
高さは2メートルから30メートルほど。葉は多くが2回羽状複葉で、見かけはアカシアやネムノキに似る（これはブラジリアン・ローズウッドも同様）。ただし1回羽状複葉または単葉の種もある。花は円錐花序につく。花冠は5裂し色は青または青紫色、一部に白い種類もある。雄蕊のほかに長い仮雄蕊を持つ。果実は偏平で卵形または長円形の蒴果で、多数の種子を含む。原産地では桜のように葉が出る前に花が咲くが、栽培環境によっては葉が出た後に花が咲くこともある。

メキシコシティのジャカランダ
メキシコシティでよく見られるジャカランダ（ハカランダ）は、メキシコ革命後に日本人移民の庭師・松本辰五郎・三四郎親子が、雨が少なくてもよく成長し花の期間が長いことから主要道路の街路樹としてアルバロ・オブレゴン大統領に植栽を勧めたのがきっかけである[9]。日系人の間ではメキシコ桜とも呼ばれ、今でも春の花として市民に親しまれている。松本はカルフォルニアのジャパニーズ・ティー・ガーデンなどを手掛けた庭師で、メキシコの鉱山王に招かれて当地に渡り、富裕層宅の庭園作りで名をあげた。

オーストラリアのジャカランダ
オーストラリアでは、南アフリカと同じくジャカランダが街路樹として広く植えられており、特にクイーンズランド州の州都ブリスベンで1864年から植えられてきたと言われる。ブリスベン近郊で毎年9月末から11月まで開花し、ジャカランダのパープルレインの花見ができるスポットがたくさん点在している。ニューサウスウェールズ州北部に位置するグラフトンでは毎年10月の半ばから1か月ほどジャカランダ祭りが開催され、街中に見栄えの良い満開のジャカランダ並木が至る所にある。シドニー周辺にも同時期にジャカランダの並木が観賞できる。
