喜多方から送っていただいたサフランを部屋の片隅で育てています。地中海原産で乾燥させためしべを香辛料として使います。日本へは、江戸時代に薬として伝わり、明治(1886年)に神奈川県大磯町(旧国府村)の添田辰五郎さんが病気の母親のために栽培を試みたのが最初なのだとか。
I cultivate the saffron that my friend sent from Kitakata in a corner of the room. Saffron , pistil being dried in the Mediterranean native is used as a spice. It was transmitted to Japan as a medicine in the Edo period. Mr. Tatsugoro Soeda at Oiso town, Kanagawa pref. (Kokufu village) tried to cultivation due to illness of the mother in the Meiji era (1886).
