ニッカリ青江（にっかりあおえ）は、香川県丸亀市ゆかりの名刀です。南北朝時代ごろに作られたとされる日本刀で、現在は丸亀市が所蔵しています。刀剣としての価値だけでなく、室町時代の武将・柴田勝家や豊臣秀吉、京極家へと伝わった歴史、そして「にっかり」という不思議な名前の由来でも知られています。

The Nikkari Aoe is a famous sword associated with Marugame City in Kagawa Prefecture. Believed to have been forged around the time of the Nanboku-chō period, this Japanese sword is currently held in the collection of Marugame City. It is renowned not only for its value as a sword, but also for its history—having been passed down through the Muromachi-period warlords Shibata Katsuie and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and the Kyōgoku family—as well as for the origin of its curious name, ‘Nikkari’.

なぜ「ニッカリ」という名前なのか伝説では、夜道に現れた、にっかりと笑う女の幽霊を武士が斬り、翌朝その場所を確認すると、石灯籠が真っ二つになっていたといいます。この逸話から「ニッカリ青江」と呼ばれるようになったと伝えられています。

As the legend goes, the name ‘Nikkari’ originates from a story in which a samurai slew the ghost of a woman who appeared on a dark night, smiling broadly. The following morning, when he returned to the spot, he found that a stone lantern had been split in two. It is said that this anecdote is the reason why the place came to be known as ‘Nikkari Aoe’.

武将たちを経て、丸亀藩の宝に。ニッカリ青江は、戦国武将の丹羽長秀や豊臣家を経て、江戸時代には丸亀藩主・京極家に伝わりました。1614年、大坂の陣に関連して京極忠高が豊臣秀頼から拝領したと、丸亀市立資料館は紹介しています。その後、京極家の家宝として大切に受け継がれました。

Passing through the hands of various warlords, it became a treasure of the Marugame Domain. The ‘Nikkari Aoe’ sword passed through the hands of the Sengoku-period warlord Niwa Nagahide and the Toyotomi clan before coming into the possession of the Kyogoku family, lords of the Marugame Domain, during the Edo period. According to the Marugame City Museum, Kyogoku Tadataka received it as a gift from Toyotomi Hideyori in 1614 in connection with the Siege of Osaka. It was subsequently treasured and passed down as a family heirloom of the Kyogoku family.

丸亀市合併10周年記念　京極家の家宝展
南北朝時代の青江物で貞次の作と伝えられています。京極忠高が豊臣秀頼より拝領したものです。

にっかり青江 – Wikipedia

にっかり青江（にっかりあおえ）は、鎌倉時代の備中青江派作の日本刀（大脇差）である。

備中青江派の刀工・青江貞次の作とされるもので、元は2尺5寸（約75cm）の太刀だったが、2尺（約60cm）の刀、さらに1尺9寸9分にまで磨りあげられた。
名称の由来は、にっかり笑う女の幽霊を切り捨てて、翌朝確認をしたら石塔が真っ二つになっていたという伝説による。斬ったとされる武士は、中島修理太夫・九理太夫兄弟、浅野長政の家臣、六角義賢に仕えた狛丹後守の3説がある。この武士から柴田勝家に所有が移り、子の柴田勝敏に譲られた。さらに勝敏を討った丹羽長秀から豊臣秀吉に献上され、子の豊臣秀頼から京極高次に与えられたと考えられる。
以後丸亀藩主である京極家の秘蔵とされ、江戸時代には刀剣極所の本阿弥家の鑑定により無代（値が付けられないほどの極上品）とされた。
1940年（昭和15年）に重要美術品に認定。太平洋戦争後に流出するが、1997年（平成9年）に丸亀市が購入し、現在は江戸時代に製作された金梨地糸巻太刀拵の外装と共に丸亀市立資料館に所蔵されている。
讃岐京極家には「京極にすぎたるものが三つある にっかり茶壺に多賀越中」という狂歌が残る。茶壺とは野々村仁清作の茶壺で、京極家には他の大名家がうらやむような名品が数多くあり、国宝指定されているものもある。多賀越中とは佐々木京極氏が近江にある頃から仕えた重臣で、幕藩時代を通じ代々多賀越中某と名乗り、江戸時代は家老職を務めた。
