瀬戸内海の高見島　Takamijima island, Seto Inland Sea

せとうち暮らし08号の特集「海の地形と海の地名」で、
タイラギ漁をされている森田さんに取材して以来、
ひさしぶりに高見島に足を運んでみました。

I went to Takami island to cover a story about fisherman of tairagi fan shell for the magazine “Setouchi kurashi vol.08” one year ago. I went to Takami island at Setouchi Art Festival for the first time in a long time.

高見島は、香川県多度津町にある塩飽諸島のひとつ。
鎌倉時代（建久年中 1190～99年頃）に岡山県の児島から人々が移り住んだのだそうです。
映画「男はつらいよ寅次郎の縁談」や「機関車先生」のロケ地になった島としても有名で、
イカナゴ漁やフグの養殖、海底のタイラギ漁で栄えた漁師の島ですが、
いまは、斜面に立ち並ぶ立派な石垣の家の多くが空き家になっています。

Takami island is one of Shiwaku islands located at Tadotsu town, Kagawa pref., Japan. People emigrated from Kojima, Okayama pref.. The island was chosen as a location for the film “Otoko wa Tsurai yo (It’s tough being a man)” and “Kikansha sensei (locomotive teacher)”. People live primarily by sand eel fishing, fugu cultivation and tairagi fan shell fishing. Many houses at the island are unoccupied now.

イイダコ漁につかう、たこ壷の貝殻。
古くは弥生時代や古墳時代の地層から小型のたこ壷が発見されています。

斜面の上に建つ大聖寺に1591年、浜の八幡宮には1597年の棟札（むなふだ）があり、
塩飽の他の島々と同様に戦国時代前後にはとても繁栄していたことがうかがえます。
瀬戸内国際芸術祭2013 秋会期の会場になっているため、たくさんの人が訪れていました。
この島がこんなに活気にあふれていることが新鮮ですが、
300～400年前はこんな風に賑わっていたのでしょうね。

Tags were retained for record of costruction the Daisei temple 1591 and Hachiman shrine 1597. If you see the worthy stonewall of houses, It is easy to imagine the history of prosperity at Period of Warring States.

浦集落の高いところに位置する大聖寺。
ここの鐘楼門には、仁王像（金剛力士像）ではなくお相撲さんが掘られています。

祇園社（ぎおんしゃ） Gion Shrine

港に戻ろうと思ったら、とてつもなく急な階段に遭遇。
島の人が日常的に使っているのでしょうか。きっと足腰が強いに違いない。

When I went back to the port, I found a flight of steep steps.
People who live in the island must be robust.

荷物だけを上の家に運ぶロープウェイがありました。
There was aerial tramway to carry luggage to upper houses.
