島の暮らしに最も溶け込んでいるアート「男木島 オンバファクトリー」 – The best loved art work "Onba factory"

瀬戸内国際芸術祭の作品のなかで地元の島の人たちに最も愛されている作品は、男木島の「オンバファクトリー」さんだと思います。
Although there are so many art work in Setocuhi Art Festival, the Onba Factory‘s art works are the best loved art work by everyone in Ogi island.

細い坂道が多い男木島では日常生活にオンバ（乳母車）と呼ばれる押し車が欠かせません。男木島でお祭やイベントが行われる際にも、野菜や肉や道具を運ぶためにオンバが大活躍していました。

A buggy is called “Onba” in Ogi island.
When some events or festival takes place, The Onba play outstandingly to carry some foods or tools.

瀬戸内国際芸術祭のオンバファクトリーさんは、そんなオンバを修理しペイントを施して作品にしているグループ。ここまで島の暮らしに溶け込んでいるアート作品は他にみたことがありません。今回は、男木島のオンバの勇姿をお届けしたいとおもいます。

Onba Factory is the team who make, paint and repair for island’s residents. I have never seen such a loved art works which become essential for local people and incorporate into daily life. I took some photograhs of Onba’s brave figure.

薪や道具をオンバで運ぶ、島のお母さんたち。
The island’s resident carries firewood, tools and so on.

毎朝、高松港でみかける郵便オンバ。
I meet Post Office Onba at Takamatu port every morning.

トマトを運ぶ木製オンバ。緑のボディとトマトの色がマッチしています。
The wooden Onba carries tomato. Green body and red tomato is good color match.

オンバではない。電動。男木島のベンツ。

This one has the light. It works in the night sloping road.

朝方高松港で目撃した郵便オンバが、こんなところで休憩しています。
I met this post office Onba at Takamatsu port. I found him.

さて、そんなオンバの工場。オンバファクトリー。
男木島の急な坂道をあがってゆくとあります。
Now then, this is the factory of them. “Onba Factory” at Ogi island, Seto Inland Sea. You can go there to walk up the slight slope toward the house.

玄関には今日も活躍したオンバたちが休憩中。

香川県｜令和2年知事表彰「かがわ21世紀大賞」を決定

香川県出身のアーティスト(彫刻家)として県内外で活躍するとともに、特に、瀬戸内国際芸術祭には、第1回(2010(H22))
から第４回(2019(R1))まで連続して公式作家として男木島会場に参加し、車が入れない狭い路地が特徴の男木島のお年寄りの必需品である乳母車をアート化した「オンバ・ファクトリー」に代表される島の人々やその暮らしに光をあてた作品は、同芸術祭のシンボルとなっている。
また、自身も男木島に移住し作家活動とともに地域づくり活動にも取り組むなど、その活動は、瀬戸内・香川の魅力を高め、その魅力を国内外に発信することに大いに貢献している。
