愛媛県伊予市の山あい、犬寄峠に広がる「黄色い丘」は、かつてのみかん畑だった耕作放棄地を再生して生まれた花の名所です。2012年、管理人の松浦さんが地域活性化を目指して開墾を開始し、約2ヘクタールの丘を2年かけて整備。2015年春には一面が菜の花で満開となり、現在ではピーク時に1日約500人、近年は週末に7,000人が訪れる人気スポットへと成長しました。

春には菜の花やミモザをはじめ、蝋梅（ろうばい）、山吹（やまぶき）、三椏（みつまた）など“黄色い花”が咲き誇り、丘全体が幸せの色に包まれます。秋には黄色いコスモスが広がり、さらに約2,000kmを旅する渡り蝶として知られるアサギマダラが飛来。2016年の初飛来以降、毎年観察できる人気の撮影スポットとなっています。

また、丘からは山間のわずかな隙間に伊予灘を望み、年に2回（2月下旬と10月下旬）、それぞれ約5日間だけ夕日が沈む幻想的な景色に出会えることも。手作りの休憩所やイベント、農家レストランなども整備され、人の手で再生されたこの丘は、地域ににぎわいを生む象徴的な場所となっています。

Nestled in the mountains of Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture, the ‘Yellow Hill’ at Inuyose Pass is a famous flower-viewing spot created by revitalising abandoned farmland that was once a mandarin orange orchard. In 2012, Mr Matsuura, the site manager, began clearing the land with the aim of revitalising the local area, spending two years developing the approximately two-hectare hill. By the spring of 2015, the entire area was in full bloom with rapeseed flowers, and it has since grown into a popular spot attracting around 500 visitors a day at its peak and, in recent years, up to 7,000 visitors on weekends.

In spring, ‘yellow flowers’ such as rapeseed, mimosa, winter jasmine, Japanese goldenbell and paperbush bloom in profusion, enveloping the entire hill in a colour of happiness. In autumn, yellow cosmos spread across the landscape, and the Asagimadara butterfly—known for its 2,000-kilometre migration—arrives. Since its first appearance in 2016, it has become a popular photography spot where the butterfly can be observed every year.

Furthermore, from the hill, one can glimpse the Iyo Sea through a narrow gap in the mountains, and twice a year (in late February and late October), for about five days each time, visitors can witness the magical sight of the setting sun. With handmade rest areas, events and farm-to-table restaurants now in place, this hill—revitalised by human hands—has become a symbolic place that brings vibrancy to the local community.

愛媛県伊予市にある犬寄峠（いぬよせとうげ）の地名は、かつてこの峠に多くの山犬が出没し、旅人を襲っていたという伝承に由来するとされます。

なかでも有名なのが「左衛門の犬退治」の話です。大洲藩の飛脚・左衛門が深夜に峠を通った際、無数の山犬に襲われ、松の木に登って難を逃れました。しかし山犬は群れをなし、次第に迫ってきます。絶体絶命の中、左衛門は刀の飾りにあった“鶏”の細工に祈りを込めました。すると不思議なことに、その鶏が夜明けを告げるように鳴き声を発します。これに驚いた山犬たちは、朝が来たと勘違いして一斉に逃げ去り、左衛門は命拾いしたといわれています。

このように、山犬が「寄ってくる峠」というイメージから、「犬寄峠」という名が生まれたと伝えられています。

The name of Inuyose Pass, located in Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture, is said to derive from a legend that many wild dogs once roamed this pass and attacked travellers.

Particularly famous is the tale of ‘Saemon’s Dog Slaying’. Saemon, a courier for the Ōzu Domain, was passing through the pass late at night when he was attacked by countless wild dogs; he escaped by climbing a pine tree. However, the wild dogs formed a pack and gradually closed in on him. Facing certain death, Saemon prayed fervently to the carved ‘rooster’ ornament on his sword. Then, miraculously, the rooster let out a cry as if heralding the dawn. Startled by this, the wild dogs mistook it for the arrival of morning and fled in a panic, and it is said that Saemon thus escaped with his life.

It is said that the name ‘Inuyori Pass’ (Dog-Gathering Pass) originated from this story, derived from the image of wild dogs ‘gathering at the pass’.

歴史
藩政期から松山 – 大洲を結ぶ大洲街道があった。当時は松並木の続く難所と伝えられる。狭い所では幅員わずか一間程度であったという。当時の道の標高は329m。
明治38年 愛媛県による街道の改修が始まった。
明治38年頃 郡中（伊予市の中心部）-中山（後の伊予郡中山町）の乗合馬車の運行が始まった。
1962年（昭和37年）5月1日政令第184号一級国道56号線に指定[1]
1965年（昭和40年）3月29日政令第58号一般国道56号に指定[1]。
1970年（昭和45年）3月犬寄トンネル（延長738m）を含む犬寄峠の道路工事が完成[2]。
1986年（昭和61年）3月3日 犬寄トンネル（延長6,021m）を含む予讃線向井原駅 – 内子駅間が開業。

伝承
以下は、この峠の名前に由来する伝承である。

犬寄峠の由来は、昔、この峠には多くの山犬がいて峠を旅する人をしばしば襲っていたことによるものとされる。いくつかの山犬に関する伝説が残っている。その一つは以下のとおり。

左衛門の犬退治
大洲藩の御用飛脚、畑の左衛門が深夜この峠にさしかかった時のこと、無数の山犬に襲われた左衛門は、松の大木に登りいったんは難を逃れた。しかし、山犬は群れをつくり、肩車に乗り乗りして左衛門に迫ってきた。「もはやこれまでか」と思った時、左衛門はふと刀の目抜きの鶏の名作に目が止まった。それは、血汐の温かみをみるときは、精を得て歌うとされていた。左衛門は大音声に「この鶏の名作、まことに精あるものならば、見事鶏声を放てよ」と祈った。すると、たちまち刀の先から「コケコッコー」と声も鮮やかに鳴声を発した。この声に驚いた山犬たちは、夜が明けたものと早合点し、一目散に退散した。
