瀬戸内海の豊島を拠点に活動するアートユニット「usaginingen（ウサギニンゲン）」は、2011年にドイツ・ベルリンで結成された家族ユニットです。自作の映像機と楽器を組み合わせた独自のライブパフォーマンスは、アナログとデジタルを横断する革新的な表現として国際的に評価され、世界各地で公演を重ねてきました。

2016年に豊島へ移住して以降は、「生活そのものを作品化する」という理念のもと、地域に根ざした創作活動を展開しています。耕作放棄地を活用した公園づくりや、竹や流木による遊具制作、農や食の体験の場づくりなど、暮らしと表現を一体化させたプロジェクトに取り組んでいます。また、子どもや女性の声を取り入れたコミュニティづくりや、テクノロジーを活用した農的実践など、社会的な視点を持つ活動も特徴です。

さらに、旧乳児院を再生した文化施設「ShinAiKan」を拠点に、パフォーマンスや展示、ワークショップを行い、地域とアートをつなぐ新たな場を創出しています。家族3人での表現活動を核に、島の暮らしや人々との関係性そのものを作品として提示し続けています。

usaginingenの表現は、舞台上のパフォーマンスにとどまらず、瀬戸内の風土に根ざした日常の営みへと広がっています。「日々の暮らしそのものが作品である」という思想を体現しながら、地域と世界を往還する新しい文化のかたちを提示する存在です。

The art collective ‘usaginingen’, based on Toshima Island in the Seto Inland Sea, is a family-run unit formed in Berlin, Germany, in 2011. Their unique live performances, which combine self-made video equipment with musical instruments, have garnered international acclaim as an innovative form of expression that bridges the gap between analogue and digital, and they have performed extensively around the world.

Since relocating to Toshima in 2016, they have been developing creative activities rooted in the local community under the philosophy of ‘turning daily life itself into art’. They are engaged in projects that integrate living and artistic expression, such as creating parks on abandoned farmland, crafting play equipment from bamboo and driftwood, and establishing spaces for agricultural and culinary experiences. Their activities are also characterised by a social perspective, including community-building that incorporates the voices of children and women, and agricultural practices utilising technology.

Furthermore, based at ‘ShinAiKan’—a cultural facility created by repurposing a former infant home—they stage performances, exhibitions and workshops, creating new spaces that connect the local community with art. Centred on the creative activities of the family of three, they continue to present island life and the relationships between people as works of art in their own right.

usaginingen’s artistic expression extends beyond stage performances to encompass the daily activities rooted in the Seto Inland Sea region. Embodying the philosophy that ‘daily life itself is a work of art’, they present a new form of culture that bridges the local community and the wider world.

豊島の唐櫃（からと）の清水


様々な映像がリアルタイムで創られ投影されます。

ウサギニンゲンさん（以下、ウサギさん）のライブパフォーマンスを撮影するために、高松の美術専門の高校「香川県立高松工芸高等学校」にお邪魔しております。みんな食い入るように、ウサギさんのパフォーマンスに見入っています。ライブが終わったあとはみんな2人に群がってたくさん質問をしていました。

ウサギさんのライブパフォーマンスはどういうものかというと、自作の映像装置を奥さんのエミさん、楽器を旦那のしんいちさんが操作し音と映像のパフォーマンスを行います。内容はそのツアーのテーマや、訪れる場所によって変えたりするそうです。まるで現代の移動紙芝居のようです。

印象に残っている高校生のお客さんの感想を聞いたのですが、それがとても素晴らしかったです。「子供の頃に万華鏡をみんなと一緒にみられたらなって思っていました。今日、その夢がかないました。」

なんて素敵な感想なんだろう。まさにこの感想があらわしているような世界観です。日本と世界各地でライブツアー開催中です。
