瀬戸芸で島々を巡ると白砂青松の多島美に心奪われる方も多いかと思います。香川では、この自生している松が古くから盆栽として愛でられてきた歴史があり、香川県高松市の鬼無地区と国分寺地区は、松盆栽の国内最大の生産地。全国シェアはなんと8割もあります。今日は香川県高松市鬼無町の盆栽園「中西珍松園 （なかにしちんしょうえん）」さんに撮影にきております。

取材中にも次々に外国人観光客が訪れていてここ最近は外国人のブログやSNSからこちらの盆栽園を知って飛び込みで足を運んでくれる方も多いのだとか。特に欧米からのお客さんの中には禅の精神を理解されている方も多く、「BONSAI」といえば「TAKAMATSU（高松）」や「KINASHI（鬼無）」を聖地として目指してこられる方もいらっしゃいます。

自分の住んでいる町に、世界中から多くの人が目指している聖地があると思うと誇らしい気持ちになりました。お忙しい中ご案内いただいた中西さんありがとうございました。

“Kinashi” and “Takamatsu” is well known as a holy ground Bonsai. Pine bonsai (miniature potted trees)’s market share grew to the top, with as much as 80% of the total domestic production. I went to “Nakanishi Chinshoen” which is the Bonsai garden of Kinashi, Takamatsu city, Kagawa pref., Japan.

Takamatsu was established in the Kamakura period. The name comes from Takamatsu Castle that Chikamasa Ikoma, a vassal of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, built and inhabited in Tamonoura in 1588. It flourished as a castle town for 54 years under four generations of the Ikoma family and for 220 years under 11 generations of the Matsudaira family. Manufacturing developed due to industrial promotional measures, including lacquer art, Botaori fabric, pine bonsai (miniature potted trees) and papier-mâché, which created a cultural boom. Some items became gifts to the shogunate, and these traditions have been passed down from generation to generation. (Experience Takamatsu)

The Kinashi Bonsai Sato, or Kinashi Bonsai District is located just outside of Takamatsu-City, Kagawa Prefecture. It is a 15-minute drive from downtown Takamatsu to Kinashi Bonsai District. Bonsai, or the creation of “small nature” , is the cultivation of beautiful potted pine trees for display and enjoyment in homes. Bonsai was inspired by the love of the land and the views of the beautiful pines growing wild on the rocky coastline. About 200 years ago bonsai artists began to cultivate “small nature” in the form of the miniature bonsai trees. This garden, at the center of Kinashi Bonsai Sato, was established 100 years ago. The Kinashi Bonsai District has continued to be a leader in the earnest study of Bonsai trees. We have a deep love for Bonsai and feel extremely honored to be able to carry on the tradition of this district and of our family. We are the 4th and 5th generations of our family to undertake the art of Bonsai. We would like to see the love and appreciation of Bonsai spread throughout the world.
