Since then, the Chichu Art Museum and other art facilities have opened one after another on Naoshima and on the nearby islands of Teshima and Inujima, drawing countless people to the islands and fostering positive interaction between visitors and island residents. People living on Naoshima and other islands have renovated their homes to offer lodgings where guests can relax and enjoy the local atmosphere. The leisurely passage of time, conversations with people you meet, beautiful scenery, silence at night… all of these make up the fabric of day-to-day life on these islands in the Seto Inland Sea, and to experience these is to experience the islands themselves. 『直島パヴィリオン』建築家・藤本壮介（ふじもとそうすけ）さんの作品。浮島現象をかたどった浮遊感のあるパヴィリオン。27の島々で構成される直島町の「28番目の島」というコンセプトで、三角形のステンレス製メッシュ約250枚で構成されています。内側に入ることができ、夜はライトアップされます。

Naoshima Pavilion by Sou Fujimoto. A pavilion reminiscent of a oating island. Adding a twenty-eighth island to Naoshima’s twenty-seven,this pavilion is comprised of approximately 250 stainless steel mesh triangles. One can go inside, and it is illuminated at night.

Standing on a hill and reached by monorail from the museum, this space has just six guestrooms, featuring a fusion of Setouchi’s natural beauty with Ando’s architecture. Vast floor-to-ceiling windows in the guestroom offer a sweeping view of the Inland Sea, and the walls of some of the guestrooms are decorated with drawings created by the artists.

“Benesse Art Site Naoshima” is the collective name for all art-related activities conducted by Benesse Holdings, Inc. and Fukutake Foundation on the islands of Naoshima and Teshima in Kagawa Prefecture and on Inujima island in Okayama Prefecture.

Our fundamental aim is to create significant spaces by bringing contemporary art and architecture in resonance with the pristine nature of the Seto Inland Sea, a landscape with a rich cultural and historical fabric.
Through contacts with art and nature, sceneries and inhabitants of the Seto Inland Sea region, we seek to inspire visitors to reflect on the meaning of Benesse’s motto – Well-Being.
