アートベース百島 ART BASE MOMOSHIMA

広島県尾道市の百島（ももしま）という島に、かつての学校の校舎をアートセンターとして再活用しているプロジェクトがあります。1999年に閉校した旧百島中学校を、2010年に現代美術家の柳幸典さんが中心となって改修を開始し、2012年に開館。毎年秋に企画展を開催しており、私が訪れた日も外国人観光客も訪れていました。

The former junior high school in Momoshima was closed down in 1999. In 2010, Yukinori Yanagi, an artist, began to renovate this abandoned school building with collaborators to transform it into a vibrant art center.　Two years later, in November 2012, ART BASE MOMOSHIMA opened to public and since then it has attracted many visitors from the region and beyond .　In addition to the display of works that change regularly, ART BASE MOMOSHIMA presents a special exhibition every fall.
