There are several impressive foodstuffs that I have encountered since moving to Shikoku, and figs are one of them. One of these is the fig, which grows in the well-drained sandy soil along the Doji River in Kagawa Prefecture and has long been cultivated for its sweet, floppy fruit. The key to selecting figs is to ensure that they are well exposed to the sun and that the skin is purple.
