【香川 3/22まで】未盗掘の古墳から出土した古墳時代の武人の甲冑「相作馬塚古墳」 – [Kagawa – until 22 March] Armour belonging to a warrior from the Kofun period, unearthed from an undisturbed burial mound “Aisako-umazuka Kofun”

相作馬塚古墳（あいさこうまづかこふん）は、香川県高松市鶴市町にある古墳時代中期の古墳で、武人が葬られた可能性が高い重要な遺跡として知られています。全長20メートル以上の造出付円墳または帆立貝形古墳と考えられ、2011年と2016年の発掘調査によってその詳細が明らかになりました。

The Aisako-umazuka Kofun is a tumulus dating from the Middle Kofun period, located in Tsurichicho, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. It is recognised as an important archaeological site, with a high probability that a warrior was buried there. Believed to be a circular tumulus with a protruding section or a scallop-shaped tumulus measuring over 20 metres in total length, its details were revealed through excavation surveys conducted in 2011 and 2016.

この古墳の最大の特徴は、盗掘を受けていない「未盗掘古墳」である点です。そのため、埋葬施設である竪穴式石室からは、甲冑・大刀・槍・鉄鏃などの武具や、玉類、土器などの副葬品が埋葬当時の配置を保ったまま出土しました。こうした状態で武具一式がまとまって見つかる例は非常に珍しく、古墳時代の武人の姿や葬送儀礼を具体的に知る貴重な資料となっています。

出土した甲冑は約1400年前の鉄製の鎧で、当時の高度な金属加工技術や武装の実態を示すものです。副葬品の内容から、被葬者は地域の有力な戦士層に属していたと考えられています。

相作馬塚古墳は、周辺にある相作牛塚古墳や今岡古墳などの古墳とともに、瀬戸内沿岸における古墳時代の勢力関係や軍事的性格を読み解く重要な遺跡群を構成しています。地域の歴史を語るうえで欠かせない文化財であり、古代の武人文化を現代に伝える象徴的な存在です。

The most distinctive feature of this kofun is that it is an ‘undisturbed burial mound’, having never been looted. Consequently, from the burial chamber—a pit-type stone chamber—armour, a long sword, a spear, iron arrowheads and other weapons, as well as grave goods such as beads and pottery, were excavated whilst retaining their original arrangement at the time of burial. It is extremely rare to find a complete set of military equipment preserved in this condition, making it a valuable source of information for understanding the lives of warriors and funeral rites during the Kofun period.

The armour excavated is iron armour dating back approximately 1,400 years, demonstrating the advanced metalworking techniques and the nature of military armament at that time. Based on the contents of the grave goods, it is believed that the interred individual belonged to the region’s influential warrior class.

The Aisaku-Umazuka Kofun, together with neighbouring kofun such as the Aisaku-Ushizuka Kofun and the Imaoka Kofun, forms a crucial group of archaeological sites for understanding the power dynamics and military nature of the Kofun period along the Seto Inland Sea coast. It is a cultural asset indispensable to the telling of the region’s history and serves as a symbolic presence conveying the culture of ancient warriors to the present day.

企画展「武人の眠る墓―相作馬塚古墳と周辺の古墳―」｜高松市

古墳時代中期に造られた相作(あいさこ)馬(うま)塚(づか)古墳(こふん)（高松市鶴市町）は、平成23年度及び28年度に発掘調査が行われました。調査の結果、全長20m以上の造出付円墳又は帆立貝形古墳で、未盗掘古墳であることがわかりました。埋葬施設である竪穴式石室からは甲冑を始めとする大刀・ヤリ・鉄鏃などの軍事的な性格をもつ武具や、玉類、須恵器・土師器などの多量の副葬品が埋葬当時の位置を保った状態で見つかりました。
　相作馬塚古墳から見つかったこれらの出土品を紹介するとともに、近隣にある古墳時代後期の相作(あいさこ)牛(うし)塚(づか)古墳(こふん)（高松市鶴市町）のほか、周辺などにある古墳時代前期の今岡(いまおか)古墳（高松市鬼無町、県指定史跡）、古墳時代中期の女(め)木(ぎ)丸山(まるやま)古墳(こふん)（高松市女木町）・津頭(つがしら)東古墳(ひがしこふん)（綾川町羽床下）から出土した埴輪・金製耳飾り・馬具・甲冑などを紹介します。
　この企画展ではこれらの考古資料を活用して、相作馬塚古墳とその周辺の古墳をわかりやすく紹介し、市民の皆様に地域の歴史や文化財への関心を高めてもらうことを目的としています。
