形の似ているオーストラリアと四国を比べてみました。 – Comparison of Shikoku and Australia continent.

全世界のバカが思い描いている世界地図を可視化するプロジェクトバカ世界地図をみると、
オーストラリアが四国になっています。

On the website “The foolish world map”,
Australia is drawn as a Shikoku.
It means that Australia has a similar shape to Shikoku.

地図の更新履歴をみてみると、
According to the update history information,

オーストラリア人は、オーストラリアの形を正確に知らないそうなので、四国の形にしました。オーストラリア人から特にコメントなければこのままになります。
Because Australian don’t know for certain about the shape, I changed it shape of Shikoku. If there is no complaint, I leave it as it is.

となっています。まあそこまではネタとして、
実際、四国とオーストラリアってどれくらい大きさが違うのか、
個人的に気になったので調べてみました。
世界中の大陸や島の面積についてはこちらをご参考に。
It is a kind of joke. But, I wanted to know the differences between individuals. Thus, I researched the data of them.
Below is the list of island and continent in the world.

島の一覧 (面積順) – Wikipedia

正しい面積で地図を表現した「モルワイデ図法」という図法で描かれた地図から
四国とオーストラリアを抜き出すとこんなかんじになります。
These are the maps with Mollweide projection which represents correct square measure.

一目瞭然！圧倒的にオーストラリアが大きいのがよくわかります。
It is easy to understand that Australia is quite bigger than Shikoku.

面積 – Square measure
オーストラリア大陸 (Australian continent)：7,600,000km2
四国大陸 (Shikoku continent)：18,780km2

せっかくなので、人口も比較してみました。
In addition, compared with population of them.

人口 – Population
オーストラリア (Austoralia)：22,268,000人 (世界保健統計2012)
四国 (Shikoku)：399,4099人 (総務省2012)

一見、人口も圧倒的に四国より多く見えますが、実はそうでもありません。
1平方kmあたりの人口を計算してみました。
Firstly, it seemed to be populated than Shikoku. But it’s not.
I calculated population density.

人口密度 – Population density
オーストラリア (Australia)：2.93人/km2
四国 (Shikoku)：212.68人/km2

単位面積あたりに住んでいる人数は圧倒的に四国のほうが密度が高いです。
実際には利用できる土地は日本のほうが限られているのでおそらくもっと人口密度は高いはず。
ちなみにオーストラリアの沙漠の面積は、約337平方km。オーストラリアって本当に広いんですね。
数字を図式化するといろんなことが見えてきます。
For your information, desert area of Australia is 337km2.
Australia is vast country.
