香川県三豊市三野町吉津にある「吉津の河津桜」は、里山の小高い場所に咲く早咲きの桜で、美しい日本の原風景を見下ろしながら楽しめる隠れた名所です。見頃は例年3月上旬から下旬にかけてで、春の訪れをいち早く感じることができます。

この河津桜は、2004年（平成16年）に地域に春の彩りをもたらす取り組みの中で植えられたものです。同年、粟島へ桜の苗木が寄贈されたのと同時期に、関係者から譲り受けた一本の苗木をこの地に植えたことが始まりで、やがて里山に根付き、美しい景観をつくり出してきました。

現在では、地域の方々の厚意により観賞や駐車ができる場所として開放されています。訪れる際はマナーを守り、里山の自然とともに静かに春の風景を楽しむことが大切です。

The ‘Yoshitsuki Kawazu Cherry Blossoms’ in Yoshitsuki, Mino-cho, Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, are early-blooming cherry trees situated on a slight hill in the rural countryside. They are a hidden gem where visitors can enjoy the blossoms whilst looking out over the beautiful, traditional Japanese landscape. The best time to view them is usually from early to late March, offering an early glimpse of spring’s arrival.

These Kawazu cherry trees were planted in 2004 (Heisei 16) as part of an initiative to bring the colours of spring to the local area. It all began when a single sapling, received from a local stakeholder around the same time that cherry saplings were donated to Awashima, was planted here. Over time, the trees took root in the rural hillside and have created a beautiful landscape.

Thanks to the generosity of local residents, the area is now open to the public for viewing and parking. When visiting, please observe proper etiquette and enjoy the spring scenery quietly, in harmony with the natural surroundings of the satoyama.

里山の『河津桜』
粟島に春の彩を添えようと、JR四国から早咲きの桜として知られる「河津桜」など桜の苗木35本が寄贈された。平成16年2月23日に粟島海洋記念公園で贈呈式が行われ、町長や地域住民によって島内9箇所に苗木を植樹した。同時期、植樹の実現に深く関わった叔父より一本の河津桜の苗木を頂き、私の肩ぐらいの小さな苗木をここに植樹したのが始まりである。
