備考：順延について。21日に高松男木島間の定期船が止まるような荒天だった場合、22日に順延いたします。22日も同じ状況だった場合は中止といたします。延期等のお知らせは男木島観光協会のXアカウントやサイトにてお知らせいたします。

Note: Regarding postponement. Should severe weather cause the suspension of scheduled ferries between Takamatsu and Ogijima on the 21st, the event will be postponed to the 22nd. If the same conditions persist on the 22nd, the event will be cancelled. Any postponement or cancellation notices will be announced via the Ogijima Tourism Association’s X account and website.

香川県高松港からフェリーで40分の男木島（おぎじま）。2021年10月に国の登録有形文化財になった男木島灯台の周辺に、1000万株以上のスイセンが植えられています。

Ogijima island, a 40-minute ferry ride from Takamatsu Port in Kagawa Prefecture. Ogijima Lighthouse was registered as a national tangible cultural property in October 2021. More than 10 million narcissus plants are planted around the Ogijima Lighthouse.

男木島の港に到着して、男木島の周遊路をまわります。
最近、東回り(反時計回り)のルートが整備されたそうですが、この日はいつもの西回り(時計回り)。
I went around the excursion round route of the island.
Although the eastbound route was constructed recently, I went for the usual westbound route on that day.

段々畑のみえる道を30分ほど歩くと、白くてかわいらしい灯台がみえてきます。
After walking along the terraced fields for 30min, I could see the cute white lighthouse.

男木島灯台は総御影石造りで、日本に3基しかない無塗装の石灯台の一つ。
The Ogi Island Lighthouse is all made of granite stone. And it is one of 3 unpainted stone light houses in Japan.

そこから少しあるくと水仙郷があります。
A few minute walk away from the light house.

男木島は日本一の水仙郷をつくろうと5年前から島の人達が球根を植えていて、なんと約1,100万本の水仙郷が広がっています。
The people in the island have planted narcissus bulbs for 5 years in order to create the best narcissus land in Japan.
You can see as many as 11 million narcissuses there.

スイセン属の逸話 – Wikipedia

Narcissusという学名は、ギリシャ神話に登場する美少年ナルキッソスに由来する。神話によると、ナルキッソスは、その美しさにさまざまな相手から言い寄られたものの、高慢にはねつけ恨みを買った。ついには、そんな彼への呪いを聞き入れた復讐の女神ネメシスにより、水鏡に映った自分自身に恋してしまった。水面の中の像は、ナルキッソスの想いに決して応えることはなく、彼はそのまま憔悴して死ぬ。そして、その体は水辺でうつむきがちに咲くスイセンに変わった、というものである。だからこそスイセンは水辺であたかも自分の姿を覗き込むかの様に咲くのである。(→エコー)
スイセンという名は、中国での呼び名「水仙」を音読みしたもの。「仙人は、天にあるを天仙、地にあるを地仙、水にあるを水仙」という中国の古典に由来する。水辺で咲く姿を仙人にたとえたのであろう。
またラッパスイセン（Daffodil）はウェールズの国章であり、ウェールズでは3月1日の聖ダビデの日（Saint David’s Day）に、ラッパスイセンかリーキを身につける習慣がある。
ウイリアム・ワーズワースは”I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”という著名な詩を、またE・E・カミングスは”in a time of daffodils”という詩をそれぞれ遺している。
海外では水仙は「希望」の象徴であり、ガン患者をサポートする団体の多くで、春の訪れと共に咲くこの水仙が「希望」のシンボルとして募金活動のキャンペーンに用いられている。
