フィンランド・クリスマス・フェア – FINNISH CHRISTMAS FAIR, London

虹を横目に見ながら、
フィンランドのクリスマス・フェアにいってみました。
場所は、かなり近所にあるフィンランド教会。結構有名らしい。
僕が住んでいる付近は何故だか北欧系の施設が多い気がします。
教会につくと人が外まであふれるほどの人気。30分ほど列にならんで入場。
教会の中は白を基調とした北欧風のインテリア。
中にはムーミンの形をしたクッキーやチョコ、フィンランドのパンなどなど売っております。
子供もたくさんいて、教会の中はわいわいがやがや。
僕はムーミンクッキーとホットワインシロップを買いました。
ムーミンの着ぐるみは背中にチャックがあることを確認して帰宅。

フィンランド教会が主催するクリスマス・フェア。
ハンドメイドならではの温もりが美しいツリーのデコレーションや、
トナカイの皮で出来た敷物など、
北欧のクリスマス気分を味わうことが出来るアイテムがずらりと並ぶ。
また、ライ麦パンやチーズ、ソーセージやトナカイの肉など、
本国の伝統的なクリスマス料理も充実している。
そしてサンタの故郷、ラップランド地域を持つフィンランドから、
本家本元のサンタクロースも登場するというから見逃せない。

Seeing as Santa and his elves have their secret headquarters somewhere in Lapland it makes sense that the Finns know a thing or two about Christmas presents. This annual festive fair shows us what they have to offer. The tables are strewn with glass, ceramics, wood, music, candles and decorations, all made by Finnish craftsmen. As well as the mountains of stocking fillers, there’s a great feast; a barbecue may sound more like a summer’s day out but there’ll be plenty of festive Finnish food – including grilled reindeer! – to remind you Christmas is around the corner. Warm up with some steaming mulled wine – ‘glögi’ – and buy the spices to make your own at home.
